I can't believe I am telling this story, but I think that maybe it will help anyone who thinks that they know what their child is doing at all times. Well, every morning Shayda goes outside to play with our animals, and ride her bike, and I always stay inside getting ready for the day. I always check on her about every five minutes, and she is always doing the same thing. Well, yesterday I checked on her, and she was messing with Clete's K-9, so I told her to leave him alone, and I went back in. About five minutes later, Clete told me to go lock our pump shed, because Shayda has learned how to get into the shed, and into our freezer, and gets a Popsicle and hides to eat it. I went out to lock the shed, and realized that the door had been open, so naturally I thought that she was hiding to eat a Popsicle. I went to look for her, and she was missing. I looked in all of her usual spots, and she was just gone. I looked for about five minutes panicking the whole time that something fell on her and she was knocked out somewhere, or of the chance that someone took her. I went and got Clete, and he started looking and yelling for her. After looking for about 15 minutes total, we spotted her out in the field behind our house with our poodle. She was clear out to the next road, so Clete drove to get her. She said she was going to look for the frogs that her dad shows her when they ride horses. Keep in mind that we have 20 acres behind and to the side of our house, and we are surrounded by fields, but she has never left our yard, so I never even thought to look that way. I now know to never underestimate my child, on what she is willing to do without me around. In just 5 minutes she had gotten far enough away that I could not see her. Now I know that you cannot leave them alone and trust that they will stay around. She is definitely an adventurer. Oh ya, and she was eating a Popsicle!
